CH DiPAULS THE SUNDANCE KID
"SUNNY"

At 5:30 on the morning of February 21, 2014 our Sundance went to the Rainbow Bridge.  We are heartbroken ….The (second) last time I saw him healthy and happy was the morning I went to the hospital for my surgery, January 24.  Never in one million years would I have thought that he would be at the Bridge only a month later. Straight from being discharged from the rehab facility after a 3 week stay there and against the advice of the Cleveland Clinic, Paul drove me out to the Animal Clinic Northview where Sundance was in their hospital section under the care of Dr. Hutchison and Dr. Greenfield.  While I sat there with him and talked to him and petted him, he raised his head and looked at me telling me that he loved me.  Paul has been making the one hour drive to Hutch’s everyday (including last night) to be with Sunny hoping to give him comfort in knowing that his “people” loved him.

We received a phone call from the clinic yesterday that the results of the bone marrow test had come back stating that Sunny had 2 types of very acute and rare leukemia, one much rarer than the other, with both being pretty much untreatable even with chemo.  We were immediately assured that this was in no way being thought of as being in his lineage or being genetic, just something horrible and deadly that had developed within his body. Dr. Brian Greenfield called us early this morning to tell us know that Sunny had passed away on his own. Our sweet boy saved us the devastating process of our having to send him to the Bridge.  I miss him so much, Paul misses him so much - we see his empty bed here …..  He only just turned 6 years old this past November.

Sunny was the image of his mother, at least in color, and was a constant happy reminder to us of her, Ch Rising Star On The Wings Of A Dove – “Danielle”. Sunny had inherited her beautiful side gait along with that of his sire, our Ch Rising Star DiPauls Brigadoon – “Tommy”; and was a very easy dog to show. With Paul’s constant urging that it was time for us to begin showing Danielle’s 4 “children” we picked Sundance to begin with. Sunny was very much a “ladies man” so we asked Bobbi to handle him and he finished his championship easily.

Run happily at the Rainbow Bridge our sweet Sundance, play with your Aunt Gigi, Grandpa Cody and mother Danielle. We miss you so very much, you were taken from us way too soon, our tears keep flowing ……. You are my Sunshine as I many many times told you. We love you. As we promised you, we will always remember you and never forget you and hope some how you are able to do the same for us.
