Early in the morning, January 5, 2012, Cody came down from Heaven and whispered in his sweet Danielle’s ear that it was time to join him at the Rainbow Bridge. Now forever together they will happily run and play in green fields.
In 1999 we jumped into our van taking Cody with us to drive across country to Colorado Springs where Nadine had a beautiful Danilov x Nofretary 8 month old puppy girl for us. While visiting with Nadine we introduced Cody to, who was then called Dovey, and she made it very clear that she wanted to be boss and tried to really let him know a couple of times refusing to play with or even like him. We all were concerned that the two borzoi just might not get along as Cody was so worried about her that at first whenever he saw her he would run and hide. We persevered and even put them into side-by-side crates in our van for several hours to observe their interaction; all seemed to go well. Paul was confident that the matchup would work and we headed home with our new girl. We decided to change her call-name to Danielle in memory of her sire Danilov. By the time we were back in Ohio, after going on a few side trips taking the dogs into many of the stores in downtown Santa Fe and Old Town in Albuquerque, she fully responded to her new call-name.
We were still concerned on how the two would get along and although Danielle was now on new turf we decided to take it slow on putting the two together. On their first full day at home Diane put Danielle into a 35 x 70 foot pen and left Cody outside of it in our fenced yard and she left for work. A while later Paul who was home telephoned Diane and asked her why she had not separated the two dogs….but she explained that she had separated them. Then why are they together in the yard with no dog inside the pen? If only you could have seen the itsy bitsy tiny weeny hole that Danielle had dug and squeezed herself through ….. maybe Yorkshire terrier size !!!!! There they were standing together, side-by-side, forever bonded, Cody and Danielle. Cody quickly became her boss, she never snapped at him again, now forever together.Danielle easily earned her championship although she made it very clear that she did not enjoy showing but loved being in the yard hunting ground hogs – her favorite sport and she was good at it too! Four years ago she gave us 4 lovely puppies all grand-sired by Cody and all four living here with us; two of which are now champions, one is major pointed and one is just beginning his show career and is pointed.
Danielle, rest in peace, that horrible cancer has taken you from us and we miss you so much. There will always be a very very special place for you in our hearts. You lived to be one month shy of your 13th birthday and your memory will live on through Butch Cassidy, The Sundance Kid, Wyatt Earp and Calamity Jane. You will forevermore be the Grand Dame of DiPauls …. CH Rising Star On The Wings Of A Dove – February 18, 1999 to January 5, 2012.
